Uttarakhand’s Mana: From Last Village to First Indian Village, BRO’s Historic Signboard Replaces Status Quo

Explore the fascinating transformation of Mana, a border village in Uttarakhand, as the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) designates it as the “First Indian Village.” Discover the impact of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for border villages and the Vibrant Village program, which aims to enhance living conditions and promote economic growth in these regions.

In a remarkable turn of events, the tiny village of Mana in Uttarakhand has shed its long-standing label as the “last village of India.” Thanks to the efforts of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Mana now proudly stands as the “First Indian Village” along the Himalayan border with China. This historic change reflects the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the implementation of the Vibrant Village program.

During his visit to Mana in October of the previous year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi endorsed Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s assertion that Mana should be recognized as the first village of the country. He emphasized the importance of considering these border villages as the starting point of India’s prosperity, rather than relegating them to the periphery.

Situated near the sacred town of Badrinath, Mana attracts devotees who journey to the Himalayan temple and often explore the village’s scenic beauty. With the BRO’s new signboard proudly proclaiming its status as the “First Indian Village,” Mana is set to experience increased attention and footfall from visitors.

This transformative step is part of the Vibrant Village program, an initiative highlighted by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her Budget speech. The program aims to develop 46 border blocks across 19 districts, spanning four states and one Union Territory – Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh (UT) – that are strategically located along India’s northern border.

The Vibrant Village program seeks to improve living conditions in these border areas and foster economic growth. Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the border regions of the country are witnessing a renewed vibrancy. Chief Minister Dhami acknowledged the positive impact of PM Modi’s governance and highlighted the role of the Vibrant Village program in this transformation.

By redefining Mana’s status from the “last village” to the “First Indian Village,” the BRO and the Indian government have recognized the immense potential of these border regions. This step not only provides a boost to Mana but also serves as an inspiration for other border villages, emphasizing their significance in the country’s progress.

The historic change in Mana’s designation marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to develop and empower border villages. The BRO’s signboard stands as a testament to the collective vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and the Vibrant Village program. As India embraces a brighter future, these border areas are poised to play a vital role in the nation’s growth and prosperity.
