The allegations against President Biden first came to light in 2019 when Reade, who briefly worked as a staff assistant in Biden’s Senate office in 1993, claimed inappropriate touching. As Biden was on the verge of securing the Democratic nomination for president in 2020, she escalated her accusations to include sexual assault. President Biden has consistently denied these allegations.
In April 2020, former Biden staff members interviewed by The New York Times were unable to corroborate Reade’s claims or recall any similar behavior by Biden towards her or other women. However, a friend of Reade confirmed that she had shared the details of the allegations with her at the time.
By May 2020, Douglas H. Wigdor, a prominent lawyer associated with the #MeToo movement, stopped representing Reade after her credibility faced intense scrutiny, which was further heightened when Antioch University challenged her claim of holding a bachelor’s degree from its Seattle campus.
During her conversation with Sputnik, Reade acknowledged the challenges of her decision to relocate to Russia but emphasized feeling a sense of safety in her new environment. While she did not provide specific details about other Americans joining her in Russia, she acknowledged the presence of fellow citizens seeking refuge in the country.
