A disagreement between two groups at the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk quickly escalated into chaos as gunfire broke out, resulting in at least nine people getting injured. The incident took place on Memorial Day in a popular beachfront area bustling with shops, restaurants, and hotels.
During a news conference, Deanna Bettineschi, the spokesperson for the Hollywood Police Department, informed the media that they received reports of shots being fired near the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, located around 20 miles north of Miami. Upon reaching the scene, law enforcement discovered multiple individuals with gunshot wounds and promptly provided them with medical assistance. The injured victims, including children, were swiftly taken to nearby hospitals.
As of Monday night, there were conflicting reports from the police and hospitals regarding the specifics of the victims. The Memorial Healthcare System stated that six adults and three children were among the injured, all of whom were in stable condition. However, during a subsequent news conference, Ms. Bettineschi clarified that the wounded consisted of four children, aged 1 to 17, and five adults, aged 25 to 65. While one victim underwent surgery, the other eight remained in stable condition.
The motive behind the shooting and the exact number of people involved in the altercation are still unclear. Ms. Bettineschi mentioned that the gunfire erupted during a dispute between two separate groups.
Law enforcement authorities have one person of interest in custody and are actively searching for another individual connected to the incident.

Ms. Bettineschi suggested that some of the victims might have been innocent bystanders unintentionally caught in the dispute between the two groups.
During the second news conference, Mayor Josh Levy of Hollywood expressed strong disapproval of the altercation, emphasizing that such behavior was completely unacceptable. He highlighted that families come to the beach to enjoy the holiday weekend and found it unfathomable that there was a disregard for public safety involving firearms.
Chief Chris O’Brien of the Hollywood Police Department disclosed that numerous officers were patrolling the area due to the expected large number of visitors for the holiday. Chief O’Brien urged witnesses to step forward with videos or any relevant information to aid the ongoing investigation, stressing that every lead would be pursued. He reassured the public that those responsible for the incident would be held accountable for their actions.
To facilitate the process, the police set up an assistance center where witnesses could provide statements to detectives and families could receive information about the victims.
